Unknown Actor Listed as Robin In ‘Batman 3′, New Human Torch & More

cody sousa robin batman 3 human torch shazam world war z johnny quest

Have you ever heard the name Cody Sousa? Yeah, me neither. That’s because he’s an actor who’s never really been in any major film productions (or even minor ones, far as I can tell). However, according to Mr. Sousa’s IMDb filmography, the young actor has some major films currently in production/development.

Yes, if the always-to-be-believed listings of IMDb are anything to go by , then you could soon be seeing Cody Sousa starring in the likes of Nightmare on Elm Street 2 and World War Zor as the titular hero in the big-screen adaptation of  Johnny Quest. He’s also apparently been cast in prominent superhero roles such as Shazam! , the new Human Torch in Fantastic Four:…

Danny Elfman No Longer Scoring ‘Green Hornet’

Danny Elfman Green Hornet movie score

Frequent Tim Burton collaborator Danny Elfman will no longer be responsible for scoring next year’s Seth Rogen superhero vehicle, the big screen adaptation of The Green Hornet.

A scheduling conflict is reportedly the reason for Elfman’s departure from director Michel Gondry’s Green Hornet, which is being converted to 3D and will hit regular and IMAX theaters next January – a month usually considered the dumping ground for less-than-stellar Hollywood pics.

Elfman is set to score new films from the likes of director Gus Van Sant (Milk) and Paul Haggis (Crash) – not to mention whatever Tim Burton releases next – so he’ll keep plenty busy in the future.

The Oingo Boingo co-founder is no stranger to the comic book/superhero movie genre, having created what for many remains the iconic Batman orchestral theme.  He also produced the…

‘Green Hornet’ Action Figures Debut

Seth Rogen seems like the kind of guy who would collect movie action figures - not that there’s anything wrong with that of course. Well, if he does, he will soon be able to add his own action figure to his collection, as the masked crime-fighter The Green Hornet.

Mezco Toys have announced they are releasing action figures from the upcoming big-screen adaptation of the comic book series and TV show being directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), which is set for a January 14, 2011 opening.

Now, if Green Hornet eventually lives up to the (bad) reputation it has already acquired, you can go out and buy one of the action figures and take your frustration out on it – or possibly use it as a voodoo doll.

Available this November, there is Rogen as Britt Reid in his Green Hornet garb…

4 New ‘A-Team’ Clips

A-Team movie clips

One of this summer’s action movies that I’m most curious about is The A-Team, the modern-day big-screen adaptation of the classic ’80s TV series.

The reason I say “curious” is simply because it has just as much potential to suck as it does to be awesome. From what we’ve seen so far the latter looks more likely, but you never know with movies like this – could end up being good popcorn fun.

To add to the awesome side of the fence, we have four new clips from The A-Team. A couple of the clips showcase the over-the-top action, whilst the other two focus on the character interaction.

Take a look at the clips below, courtesy of MSN and Yahoo:

‘Last Airbender’ Japanese Trailer, TV Spots, & Featurette

the last airbender tv spots international trailer

It may be Memorial Day here in the U.S. but the Fire nation is waging war against the rest of the world in the new Japanese trailer and TV spots for this summer’s The Last Airbender.  In addition, we have a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the construction of one of the film’s elaborate sets – and some thoughts from director M. Night Shyamalan on his first blockbuster project.

The Last Airbender is a big screen adaptation of the hit Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender.  In terms of plot, the film will focus primarily on the events of the show’s first season as the Fire nation seeks to reign supreme over the Earth, Water, and Air nations.

Hope presents itself in a group of fearless fighters, most notably Aang (Noah Ringer), the latest…

‘The Fighter’ Director On Shortlist for ‘Uncharted’ Movie

David O. Russell is a potential director for Uncharted video game movie

Last summer we reported on the news that a big-screen adaptation of the popular adventure video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was on the way. It originally had Kyle Ward (Hitman 2, Kane & Lynch) on board to write the script, but last November news surfaced that Ward had been replaced by Conan reboot writers, Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

But who will direct the Uncharted movie? Well, there’s no official confirmation yet but there’s news that Sony has already drawn up a shortlist of directors, and included on that list is David O. Russell.

That name may not be readily familiar to you as Russell is not necessarily known for the types of movies we cover here at Screen Rant, nor for films similar to…

Neil Marshall Directing ‘The Professionals’

neil marshall directing the professionals

British cult film director Neil Marshall, the man behind Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday, and the forthcoming Centurion, is set to direct a big screen adaptation of 70’s show The Professionals.

The original show was the British equivalent of Starsky and Hutch – only with a harder edge. It followed the adventures of Bodie and Doyle, two agents who worked for the fictional CI5.

The show starred Lewis Collins and Martin Shaw as Bodie and Doyle – and Gordon Jackson as their long suffering and perpetually grumpy boss Cowley.

Speaking of the film Marshall said:

“It’s going to be a hard-hitting action movie. I always loved the show. It has one of the greatest theme tunes ever and a really great central premise. I just thought: this is going to make a great…

Green Hornet & The Last Airbender To Go 3D

Green Hornet 3D and The Last Airbender 3D

It looks as though two more upcoming tentpole films are set to board the increasingly-crowded 3D bandwagon – specifically, the Seth Rogen hero flick The Green Hornet and the big screen adaptation of a popular animated show, The Last Airbender.

Of course this relatively sudden announcement does beg the question: Are the studios behind these films trying to pull another Clash of the Titans on us?  Will the 3D effect essentially be slapped onto the completed prints of each film in a last-minute bit of post-production with the hopes of larger returns at the cash register?

GREEN HORNET

Sony executives are now referring to the 3D treatment of The Green Hornet as an “enhancement.”  In other words, their approach will be something in between shooting the film in the 3D format (a la Avatar)…

The Walking Dead TV Series Greenlit, Cast Added

The Walking Dead TV series by Frank Darabont

It’s finally happening, folks! Frank Darabont’s live-action adaptation of the hit comic series The Walking Dead has been picked up for 6 episodes, before the pilot even aired. In late January, The Walking Dead series was greenlit as negotiations were being finalized for Darabont to write and direct the series for AMC. Now it’s a done deal with AMC putting out the official press release earlier today.

The Walking Dead is based on the hit Image comic series created and written by Robert Kirkman. It’s been a monthly series ever since its launch back on 2003 and as of this time, there are 70 issues. In the press release, the 6 episodes are described as “season one” so if it does well, we can hope for it to become an ongoing program.

For those unfamiliar with the series, the character-based comic follows a Kentucky police officer and his family along with a bunch of other survivors who work together in resistance of the world that’s been overrun with zombies. Although a zombie-themed book, the stories of The Walking Dead are really about the people, their relationships and their development while trying to cope with this impossible situation which makes it ripe for the making for a serialized program.

On the casting front, Jon Bernthal, who can currently be seen in HBO’s The Pacific, has joined the series as a supporting character but as for who will play the lead character, small town cop Rick Grimes, no one’s been chosen yet. Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone) was rumored for the role but AMC has denied this.

The Walking Dead is famously known for its visual style of being only black and white. Will the small screen adaptation of The Walking Dead go black and white?

Darabont is responsible for such works as The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and more recently, The Mist, and I’m psyched to see this series.

The Walking Dead was won in a bidding war by AMC last August and it’s been on the fast-track every since, with a pilot being announced earlier this year. The series officially begins production in June and is set to premiere in October during AMC’s Fearfest event.

Paul W.S. Anderson To Direct ‘Buck Rogers’

Buck Rogers 3D

One week after the serial comic Captain Future found its director, another space adventure is ready to launch. Buck Rogers has had a few adaptations since its inception in the August of 1928. Now it has a director for the upcoming 3D film written by Iron Man’s Art Marcum and Matt Holloway.

According to Coming Soon, the comic helped turn space exploration into a phenomenon. This film will help re-invent the character, while staying true to its origin.

“According to Deadline New York, the big screen adaptation is ‘a new version of the classic tale of a fighter pilot who quickly acclimates to the future and puts his skills to use defending the planet against invaders.”

Comic book guru Frank Miller was once rumored to be involved, but maybe the Spirit scared the producers away. It will be interesting to see Paul W.S. Anderson’s mark on this film, considering his work isn’t much better. His track record is in dire need of a blockbuster hit, with Mortal Kombat, Event Horizon, Soldier, Resident Evil, AVP: Alien vs. Predator and Death Race as his complete directorial resume.

Buck Rogers is an intriguing character worth a look. Rogers is a U.S. Army Air Corps officer who slips into a coma after a gas leak, only to awaken in the the year 2419. He joins Wilma Deering and Dr. Huer to fight the evil that threatens all. Is it bad that immediately, my mind thought of Futurama?

Buck Rogers 3D

The Iron Man writers give this project some hope and Anderson again gives himself the challenge of going into outer space. It should make for a fun, action-oriented film with humor embedded throughout, considering the writers.

Buck Rogers will release in 3D at an unknown date in the future, but likely not in the 25th century. Paul W.S. Anderson is in post-production on his return to the Resident Evil franchise with Resident Evil: Afterlife.

What do you think? Can Buck Rogers be a hit or will it be just another space bust for Anderson?
