well, if you know the rise and run of one tread, you can multiply each by the number of steps. If you don't know that, you have a right triangle with the hypotenuse being the steps themselves, but you'd have to know the angle of the steps in that case.

I don't know how it works there but here what a Doctor puts in his file stays in that clinic or hospital. There is no file sharing network (yet). If that's the case, go to a different clinic or hospital. I hate it when doctors do that.
The brown spot might be related to the HPV or it could just be a new mole due to sun damage and the pain in your foot could be completely unrelated. I had a patch of freckles show up on my upper arm and one continued to grow and my doctor said it was nothing – we get new moles all the time. You need to see a Doctor with fresh eyes though.
