MAD Magazine Animated Series Now on Cartoon Network
Sep 9th

Are there any loyal readers of Mad Magazine still out there? I’m talking to you ancient scions of decades past, who still remember what it to hold an actual printed publication in hand, with sole purpose of seeking out a few yuk-yuks in order to remind yourself of the lighter side of life (see what I did there?).
Well if Mad TV was never really enough for you Mad Magazine purists out there, then maybe you’ll be happy to hear that the (arguably) best element of that show – the animated portions – are now being set center stage in their own TV series on the Cartoon Network, appropriately title MAD.
The series debuted this past Monday (Labor Day) at 8:30 pm on Cartoon Network. The format is a 15-minute show (a la Robot Chicken) and…

Pixar Considering Animated Dr. Strange Movie?
Sep 9th

Pixar may be working on a new superhero project far different in tone and content than their acclaimed 2004 hit The Incredibles – the animation powerhouse is reportedly looking into adapting Marvel’s Dr. Strange comic book series as a CGI movie.
This suggestion comes via British comic book artist Brendan McCarthy, who revealed in a recent interview with Bad Librarianship that he was “… over in Hollywood earlier this year mooching about, and I had a meeting at Disney and the conversation drifted around to Pixar animating a Dr. Strange movie.”
Marvel hired writers last June to begin work on a screenplay for a cinematic adaptation of Dr. Strange. That live-action project may not be either a feature-length or solo effort for the character, whose popularity outside of the comic…

New Behind the Scenes ‘Devil’ Featurette
Sep 9th

A new behind the scenes featurette for Devil has been released, the forthcoming horror-thriller about five strangers trapped in an elevator who soon realize that one of them is not who/what they appear to be.
It’s an intriguing premise and I really hope that the directorial efforts of The Dowdle Brothers can do the idea justice. The film comes “from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan” as the promos all state, but I’m not so sure they should be bragging about that considering his movies have gone seriously downhill ever since Signs (the crowd at Comic-Con went from silently interested to booing when Shyamalan’s name came up onscreen during the trailer).
Nevertheless, Shyamalan only wrote the story for Devil (although the actual screenplay was written by Brian Nelson of 30 Days of Night and Hard Candy) and produced…

Jeremy Renner & Noomi Rapace May Play ‘Hansel and Gretel’
Sep 9th

Over the years there have been plenty of adaptations of the classic fairytale Hansel and Gretel, from a 1954 stop-motion animated film to an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer which put a new twist on the tale (to name but a couple).
We’re reportedly going to be getting yet another version of the tale, entitled Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters which is set to be helmed by Norwegian director Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow), who is making his English-language debut. That news apparently became known awhile back, but now we learn who may end up portraying the titular characters.
Hawkeye himself, Jeremy Renner, was doing an interview for Ben Affleck’s The Town at the Venice Film Festival and let slip that he’s up for the role of Hansel,…

‘True Blood’ Season 3 Finale ‘Evil Is Going On’ Preview & Clips
Sep 9th

“Trubies” across the nation are going into preemptive withdrawal as season 3 of HBO’s phenomenally successful and beloved vampire satire True Blood comes to a close. The HBO marketing department does a tremendous job of stoking the fires of fan fervor while keeping the cliffhangers, hanging. Today’s clip and preview releases are no exception to that rule. They provide just enough information to get fans speculating on what the finale will reveal and how the show will lay the groundwork for next summer’s season 4.
Please note this preview does contain some potential spoiler elements.
From the looks of the trailer, HBO is continuing to stroke the fires of panic amongst “Team Eric” players. Though all can rest assured that Alexander Skarsgard will be returning as vampire sheriff and rake extraordinaire next season; the trailer is…

Captain America Costume & Vehicle Set Photos
Sep 9th

It’s Marvel set photo day! A few hours ago we posted the first look at January Jones in costume as Emma Frost on the set of X-Men: First Class, and now comes photos from another Marvel epic also currently shooting in England, Captain America: The First Avenger.
The new photos do feature Captain America in full costume, filming motorcycle scenes but it’s not Chris Evans we see suited up in superhero gear, but rather his stunt double. The photos include Cap’s U.S. Army Indian motorcycle, a pair of Nazi space-age armored Hydra bikes and a neat car.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the stunt actor looks very different than Evans, at least in terms of their faces. The second thing that sticks out is…

Fall TV 2010: New Shows Preview & Premiere Dates
Sep 9th

It’s time to dust off your remote and make room on your DVR, because the 2010 Fall television season is upon us. With over 20 new TV series premiering this month, figuring out what to watch may be a tad overwhelming. Luckily, we’ve watched almost every new premiere and have put together a comprehensive guide of all the new shows, their premiere dates and, for those interested, a mini-review to let you know whether or not each series might be worth your time.
Included in the bunch are Kurtzman and Orci’s Hawaii Five-0 remake for CBS, J.J. Abrams’ spy drama Undercovers for NBC and the long-awaited superhero drama from ABC, No Ordinary Family. Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to see NBC’s Outsourced (take that as a sign) and the series premiere of Law…

SR Pick: No One Likes M. Night Shyamalan
Sep 9th

It’s no secret that M. Night Shyamalan’s career has been put under the spotlight, even more than before, ever since The Last Airbender. We even debated what happened to the man who brought us The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. A brand new, hilarious College Humor video reenacts the strange, new world for Shyamalan.
Shortly after the generally ill-received release of The Last Airbender, a new trailer cropped up in theaters. The trailer was for Devil, a thriller that takes place within an elevator, written by Shyamalan. The trailer is riveting and intense, grabbing its audience. But when the screen shows “From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan,” nearly every theater full of movie fans erupted in moans, groans and laughs. It is true -…

‘The Dark Tower’ Movie Trilogy & TV Series On the Way
Sep 9th

Stephen King’s epic novel series The Dark Tower is practically begging to be adapted into either a movie or a TV series. Early in 2009 it was reported that J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company were going to be bringing the book series to the big-screen. However, late last year Abrams revealed he wouldn’t be adapting the books after all.
But fear not Dark Tower fans as Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures and NBC Universal have landed a deal to bring King’s epic to life. If it wasn’t exciting enough that King’s “magnum opus” is finally being adapted (for real this time), the adaptation will come to us in the form of not only a whole trilogy of movies but also a coinciding TV series.
How exactly can a TV series…

‘Anchorman 2′ Could Still Happen
Sep 9th

Fans of the 2004 Will Ferrell comedy hit Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy can come out from their glass cases of emotion now – the followup, Anchorman 2 is not dead after all.
Director Adam McKay had to cancel his plans for filming an Anchorman sequel in 2011 after Paramount passed on the project last April. The news that Anchorman 2 would not happen incited a major outcry from fans of the original improv comedy hit.
Was the negative reaction large enough to give Paramount reason to reconsider? Very much so, according to McKay himself:
“It did, it made a difference. Paramount heard it. Adam Goodman, the President of Paramount, was on the first one so he loves it and when that outcry came, he was kind of excited…
