Amazon terminates North Carolina affiliates
Although the legislation in North Carolina has not yet passed, it is being reported that Amazon affiliates in the state have been sent an email today stating that:
We are writing from the Amazon Associates Program to notify you that your
Associates account has been closed as of June 26, 2009.This is a direct result of the unconstitutional tax collection scheme expected
to be passed any day now by the North Carolina state legislature (the General
Assembly) and signed by the governor.
Obviously this is bad news for Amazon Associates in North Carolina, especially those who derive significant income from one of the internet’s most popular affiliate programs. And they may soon find that they’re not alone.
With so many state governments in the United States facing massive deficits, similar tax proposals are being considered elsewhere, including in California. Amazon has threatened that if California follows in North Carolina’s footsteps, it will have no choice but to terminate affiliates in that state too.
Proponents of the kinds of tax legislation that Amazon and other online retailers are fighting against say that states lose billions of dollars in revenue annually because the Amazons of the world don’t collect sales. They argue that the real impact on online retailers would be modest and would simply put online retailers on a level playing field with brick and mortar businesses. Amazon has countered that it’s not just about money; it’s about logistics and the Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon “would support a federal effort to streamline state tax laws and give
signatory states the authority to require all sellers to collect taxes,
regardless of whether they are physically present in those states“.
Who is on the right side of argument? While some sort of internet tax regime in the United States might be reasonable, and should be expected, one can’t help but think that the desperate rush of states to figure out ways to get their hands on additional revenue as they face fiscal disaster might just result in poorly-designed legislation that does more harm than good. Amazon’s North Carolina affiliates have already learned that the hard way.
This is definitely an issue to keep an eye on if you’re involved with online retail in the United States.

first you need to put together a press package, that would include websites, bios, business cards etc. next you want to put out press release on your companies accomplishments which would include the introduction of a new product a new contract or even the hire of a well respected person in that field, whatever you think could be considered news. next and this is the hardest part you need to try and contact the editor of the journal or one of its reporters, you can usually find their email either in the paper or on their website.. just remember its all about creating a buzz
i hope this helps!!!

I agree. Circuit City is great. I did all of my tech Christamas shopping there last year. I ordered on line and picked it up at the store. They should just get rid of the sales people and pass the savings on to me!

Most states have gambling laws that allow gaming in specific areas. Colorado has gaming in 3 mountain towns, river gambling is allowed in MO, IA, MS, and LA, and many states have casinos on Indian land.
You might run into some legal problems running your business. One rule in most states says that gambling is legal as long as no profit is made by the business. You could run poker games and let your patrons gamble while charging for food and beverages.
Do not take a rake or you will be in trouble!

US Constitution, Article 1 (Legislature), Section 8 reads as follows:
Section 8. The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;
The first line says it all to me. "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes". Now that sounds like the Congress has the authority to tax pretty much as they see fit.
There are a lot of people doing as you say, but I haven't heard of all sorts of them walking away after not filing taxes.
The Constitution is a framework for our government. The laws and statutes define exactly what the law will be. For example, the congress in empowered, by the Constitution, to regulate interstate commerce, not to set the speed limit at 65 MPH. So by possessing the power to tax, they have established the IRS to accomplish that task. It all sounds Constitutional to me.
Hope this helps.

I would highly doubt it. Most stores have limited shelf space and only stock merchandise that they know they can sell.
The software companies give the stores credits for the copies of the software that they haven't sold after April 15. So most companies would have sent back their copies then.
You should still be able to do them online through one of the software companies' websites.

It's hit or miss. The sports articles usually come from a different perspective, and some of the personal finance stuff is useful. No, I couldn't care about articles on jazz and art, and the travel section is designed to appeal to those with a little more money than I have.
But when they hit, it's usually worth reading.

(in response to dt) Billboard has been around for decades, and certainly underwent a transformation from "brick and mortar" to become whatever it is today.
I regards to Yahoo!, I would start by discussing its primary source of revenue. In the past many ad dollars on the internet came from other website (who got that money from unwise investors). This was a very unstable enviroment for the big players like Yahoo!. Now that thier clients are predominately "brick and mortar," Yahoo! has the stability of income to invest itself in other non-primary services.
I hope this at least helped you to brainstorm. Good luck with the next 3 hours.

No rate. "Involuntary Servitude" does not give you the right to choose to work or not, a 100% rate still gives you the right to choose not to do anything at all.

Will a Brick and Mortar school accept credits from Kaplan? Is Kaplan accredited by a regional accrediting agency? If not, your credits probably aren't worth much.
